Set up your mail app

Use ExitoMail in the mail apps you already have. You need your full address, your password (or an app password) and, for some apps, our server name: mail.exitomail.com.

1The settings, at a glance

Every mail app that speaks IMAP works with ExitoMail. Outlook and Thunderbird look the settings up from your address, so usually you only type your address and password. Other apps ask for them once:

Sending needs sign-in on both ports. If your app offers both, port 465 with SSL/TLS and port 587 with STARTTLS work equally well. POP3 isn't offered: use IMAP, which keeps every device in sync.

Signed up with an address you already had?
Accounts made for Exito Vault and Exito Transfer only don't have a mailbox. Add a free @exitomail.com address in Settings → Email address first, then use that address in your mail app.

2App passwords

An app password is a separate password for one mail app. Your main password works in mail apps too (unless two-step verification is on), but app passwords keep it off your devices, and you can revoke one lost phone without changing anything else.

  • Create one in Settings → Mail apps with New app password. Give it a name you'll recognize, like "iPhone Mail". We ask for your password (and, with two-step verification on, a code from your authenticator app) and email you that one was created.
  • We show it only once. Paste it into the app as the password, with your full address as the username.
  • Revoke it any time: the app using it stops syncing right away. You can have up to 5 app passwords at once.
  • Changing your main password keeps app passwords working, unless you tick Also revoke all app passwords. A reset with "Forgot password?" revokes them all, so whoever knew your old password loses mail access too.
Required when two-step verification is on
Mail apps can't ask for a code, so while two-step verification is on, your main password doesn't work in them: give each app its own app password instead (that's how Google does it too). When you turn two-step verification off, your main password works in mail apps again.

3iPhone and iPad

  1. Open your mail accounts
Go to Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts (on older iOS: Settings → Mail → Accounts).
  2. Add an account
Tap Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account. Enter your name, you@exitomail.com, your password (or an app password) and a description.
  3. Choose IMAP and enter the server
Pick IMAP. For both Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server, enter host name mail.exitomail.com, your full address as the user name and the same password.
  4. Save
Tap Next, then Save. The ports and encryption are picked automatically.

Apple Watch shows the mail from the iPhone Mail app, so there's nothing extra to set up on the watch.

4Android (Gmail app)

  1. Add an account
In the Gmail app, tap your profile picture, then Add another account → Other.
  2. Choose manual IMAP setup
Enter you@exitomail.com, choose Manual setup → Personal (IMAP) and enter your password (or an app password).
  3. Incoming server
Server mail.exitomail.com, port 993, security SSL/TLS, username your full address.
  4. Outgoing server
Server mail.exitomail.com, port 465 with SSL/TLS (or 587 with STARTTLS), and keep Require sign-in on.

Other Android mail apps, like Samsung Email, ask for the same settings.

5Outlook (Windows, Mac and mobile)

  1. Add your account
In Outlook, go to Settings → Accounts → Add account (classic Outlook for Windows: File → Add Account) and enter you@exitomail.com.
  2. Let Outlook find the settings
Outlook looks your settings up from the address. If it asks for the account type, choose IMAP (sometimes under “Advanced setup”).
  3. If it asks for servers
    Incoming: mail.exitomail.com, port 993, SSL/TLS. Outgoing: mail.exitomail.com, port 587 with STARTTLS (or 465 with SSL/TLS).
  4. Finish
Use your password or an app password for both, then continue. On iPhone and Android, Outlook asks the same questions.

6Apple Mail on Mac

  1. Add a mail account
In Mail, choose Mail → Add Account (or System Settings → Internet Accounts), then Other Mail Account.
  2. Sign in
Enter your name, you@exitomail.com and your password (or an app password), then Sign In.
  3. If Mail can't verify it on its own
Choose account type IMAP and enter mail.exitomail.com as both the incoming and outgoing server, with your full address as the user name.

7Thunderbird

  1. Add a mail account
Open Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account, or use the setup screen on first launch.
  2. Enter your address
Type your name, you@exitomail.com and your password (or an app password), then Continue.
  3. Confirm the settings it found
Thunderbird looks the settings up for you: IMAP on mail.exitomail.com port 993 (SSL/TLS) and SMTP on port 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS). Click Done.

8Windows Mail

Microsoft has replaced the Mail app that came with Windows by the new Outlook for Windows, so the Outlook steps apply on current PCs.

If you still use the older Mail app:

  1. Add an account
Open Settings → Manage accounts → Add account → Advanced setup → Internet email.
  2. Fill in the servers
Account type IMAP4. Incoming server mail.exitomail.com:993, outgoing server mail.exitomail.com:465, your full address as the user name.
  3. Require SSL
Keep “Require SSL for incoming email” and “Require SSL for outgoing email” ticked, and sign in to the outgoing server with the same details.

9Any other IMAP app

Spark, eM Client, Thunderbird for Android (formerly K-9 Mail) and every other IMAP app take the same settings:

Choose normal password authentication. If the app offers OAuth or "Sign in with…" buttons, skip them and pick IMAP instead.

10If it doesn't connect

  • The username is your whole address, like you@exitomail.com, not just the part before the @.
  • Changed your password? Update it in your mail apps too. App passwords keep working after a password change, but not after a reset with "Forgot password?". Two-step verification on? Mail apps need an app password; your main one won't work.
  • Check the ports and encryption. 993 with SSL/TLS for incoming; 465 with SSL/TLS or 587 with STARTTLS for outgoing. Mixing them up (587 with SSL/TLS) is the most common mistake.
  • Storage full? When your space runs out, new incoming mail is refused until you free some up or add storage. See the shared storage pool.
  • Still stuck? Check the status page, then write to us with the app name and the exact error message.
